By small and simple means..

Tonight I was milling around at Mother's Market looking for something to eat for dinner when I decided impulsively to buy a Cooking Light magazine upon check out. I love Cooking Light- but I made a vow years ago never to buy magazines because personally I think they're a waste of money. Of course, after flipping through all of the fabulous recipes tonight now I want to subscribe to a year's worth of the mag (they're having a special right now where you can buy one subscription and get a second one free- perfect to send to my mom!). Back in the day when I was hardcore into Weight Watchers, I would pick four recipes from my Cooking Light Weight Watcher's recipe books every week and make them to keep things interesting and new and keep me on track with my points (maybe I should try this again...hmmm....)

Anyway, while flipping through the mag tonight I came across one particular article by Kate Meyers (7 Ways to get on good speaking terms with your budget) where she suggests writing a nightly gratitude list- and this intrigued me. She says to recall 3 nonfinancial things you're grateful for. She says that not only will you feel better right then, you'll also feel better the following morning as well. "A positive suggestion sets you up for a deep, more relaxed sleep." So that is what this blog post is dedicated to tonight- 3 things I'm grateful for. I wish I could write something about weight loss but tonight I just can't. I will try though, to relate the 3 things to my weight loss experience. Here goes...

1.) Even though I haven't worked out this week...I'm grateful for a healthy body that has the ability to work out and function properly. Not everyone has the ability that I have to move and use their bodies. My body is healthy and strong. Granted, a little overweight right now. But I've run 7.3 miles! I can run 6 miles right now with no problem! Not everyone can do that! Hooray for a healthy strong body- with healthy bones, and a healthy heart, and a sound mind (ok ok, I might be pushing it here). Maybe that's too cheesy for you- but what about your body do you love? I truly am so thankful that mine is healthy and I am not in the hospital or bed-bound.

2.) I'm so thankful for my family and for my support network as well. My friends, my twitter buddies, my blog readers- anyone and everyone who rallies around me and offers up words of encouragement. I am fully aware that I complain quite a bit. I am also fully aware that lately I've been more "off" the wagon than "on". But to those who have stuck by me and continued to support me- you will never know the power and the influence you have had in helping me to get back up for the zillionth time and helping me to try again. Thank you, thank you...from the bottom of my heart- thank you so much. I sincerely appreciate every moment that you have taken to type out a kind word or called me to lift my spirits and remind me that this IS possible. Thank you.

3.) I'm grateful for magazines like Cooking Light that have great recipes in them to help me remember that eating healthy and working on my eating habits doesn't have to be a painful or bland experience. I want to be healthier, and thanks to modern day technology and magazines like this that are dedicated to healthy eating, I can find new things to eat and new things to try to eat better and become better. There is so much variety and healthy things to eat. I can and will be healthy.

What 3 things are you thankful for today?

  1. You know what? You have just inspired me to think about what I'm thankful for. I'm so going to post about it myself.

    1) I'm thankful that my body is getting a little smaller.

    2) I'm thankful for the people at my gym who make me feel comfortable there.

    3) I'm thankful for the support of my friend and family and tweeps and everyone who takes time to be encouraging to me as I try to make the biggest change I've ever made in my life.

You are so supportive Diz..and I just became a follower..I assumed I was already. Geesh.

The nice thing about the wagon is it's always a great time to hop on. And 6 miles? Daaaaamn..

  2. Hey, Diz. You know, I have often heard/read the suggestion about taking time to list the things you're thankful each day, but for some reaso--although I thought it was a nice idea--it never impressed me enough to do it. Something about your post has made me take a second look. I guess I never saw it tied to a good nights sleep AND a good wake up from sleep. I'm gonna start tonight. I'll let you know how it goes. :) thanks, diz. Deb
