Sin City Salvation.

I'm finally home from Vegas.

I thought I did pretty well- I didn't drink (I don't drink), I ran everyday except yesterday (I didn't go to bed Sunday night til 5:30 am and then woke up around 9:30 and went immediately to the pool to chill and couldn't exercise), I ate very well...never stuffed myself, ate small portions, worked out everyday, etc...so why when I went to WW today did I gain a pound?  UM... EXCUSE ME?

Maybe it's because I haven't actually been to bed yet.  I was out again last night until my flight this morning at 6 am.  I'm now at work.  I think my body is pissed and therefore somewhat bloated...is this possible?

Well...I'm not off to a good start with my freaking Biggest Loser challenge even though I thought I did pretty good all weekend.  I swear it's the sleep deprivation.  I mean, I was dancing like a maniac every night in the club; there is just no way I seriously gained.  No way.

I need to sleep.

  1. The scale is being particularly viscious this week, Diz. It'll read better next week, it will.

  3. You ran while on vacation in Vegas?! GO YOU!
p.s. I have learned on the biggest looser that when we travel by plane, we retain water. So you probably are fine :)
    Keep it up!

  4. Throwing your body clock off like that could very easily have caused you to retain water. Give yourself a day or two to get straight, and I'll bet you'll see a downward trend.

  5. Hey Diz, I am still amazed that you were so incredibly dedicated whilst in Vegas. HUGE congratulations!!
If you have retained fluid, like some of the suggestions above, try the diruetic juice I make. I have the recipe for it in my post for April 2nd 2010.
What I think it is, though, is exactly what you have said - LACK OF SLEEP! All the weight loss groups I have ever been involved in say that a sleep is an extremely important aspect of weight loss and that we need at least 8 hours each night. There's even a book called *Sleep Yourself Thin*.
So I would suggest you include some serious sleep this week and watch the numbers decrease on the scales at next weigh in. (*_*)

  7. I like how you're accepting this as nothing but a temporary "glitch" in the system. It's the truth...and I like your perspective!

  8. Hey, Diz. I'm reading a book on diabetes--and it started talking about the fact that there is a correlation between gluten intolerance and diabetes. (Nice that I found that out the hard way--and that no MD ever mentioned it! Although seeing it in print does make me feel less nuts.)

BUT listen to this--it said that there is also a high correlation between HASHIMOTO'S DISEASE and gluten intolerance. According to this author (Suzy Cohen), if someone who is gluten intolerant cuts out gluten, it can reduce the thyroid antibodies associated with Hash... disease. It also reduces the gluten associated symptoms of digestive distress, cravings, etc.

Just thought you'd find that interesting.

  9. You'll be fine once you get your bearings about you. Get some sleep and drink tons of water to fight the bloat. Its probably just the different climate or elevation or something science-y. lol. Welcome back home sweetie, I missed you!!!

  10. FOR SURE it's the lack of sleep girl! I'm sure the scale is back down. Did you drink tons of water? It's so crazy what lack of sleep can do to your body. I was in TX all weekend in 110 degree weather and didn't sleep much. That combined with flying made me so bloated and swollen. It was bad news! So proud of you for kickin but in Vegas. Vacations are so hard. I'll just leave this post with 'you, me and the pantry.' Enough said! ;)
