HCG is NG (no go)

Well, after all the comments yesterday, I realized I obviously needed to do more research in regards to HCG and my thyroid.  Duh! :)  After spending a few hours on the web and not really finding anything that specifically addressed these two issues together, I did find a website that was pretty specific for people with thryoid issues.  There were forums, and blogs, and links to other websites.  I started researching what other people were doing to lose weight and/or maintain with their thyroid issues, and I found so many useful comments!  I don't know why I haven't researched more fully into my disease.  I actually have Hashimoto's Disease, which is an autoimmune disease where the antibodies in your body attack your thyroid.  I guess because I went to the doctor when I was 21 and he told me to take this pill and everything would be fine, I never questioned it.  I've never really had any sensitivities to any foods that I'm aware of, so I've just never thought about researching and testing my body more fully to see about myself and what triggers cause problems for me.  But these websites and forums and blogs were so helpful that I (again) am on a whole new path.

I've decided not to do the HCG diet.  While I did find some people who have issues with their thyroid who have had great results, I personally do not want to take any risks.   If you do not take care of your body, you could harm your health, and once it's gone, it's so hard to get back.  I do not take my health lightly!  I am not saying that HCG doesn't work for everyone, I'm just saying for me in my life right now, I have chosen not to do it right now.

I went through 172 comments before finally realizing that women who ate a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle seemed to have the most success at losing weight and keeping it off with regards to thyroid issues.  Or at least they commented the most. :)  I've been thinking about this a lot.  While I'm not quite ready to go back to a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle quite yet, I am definitely ready to start thinking about my diet.  This morning I started reading the Fat Flush diet again, and for now before Vegas, I am going to do that diet again.  It is a cleansing diet that helps flush your system of excess toxins- sounds perfect to do right before Vegas. :)  I've done it before and I think it's a great diet- just hard for me to maintain for too long.  It's just super healthy and we all know I am not the healthiest girl when it comes to food and especially treats.

Which means of course, that today I had to go to McDonald's to enjoy a Quarter Pounder before I start the Fat Flush again.  I mean, it's the nastiest thing I could think of.  It was close to work and I thought, who knows how long it's going to be until I have a value meal again?  (how long has it been since I've eaten McD's?  I don't even know)  Don't worry, it's been so long since I've had a full on value meal at McDonald's that I was absolutely shocked when the lady quoted back a $6.73 price tag on my QP.  Excuse me?  When did McD's get so expensive?  Not to mention my burger was completly greasy and sickening.  I don't know why I thought it would be good- it made me sick.  I don't know how people eat fast food on a regular basis.  It was absolutely nasty.  But I ate every fry...and every bite.  And sucked down all of my Diet Coke. :)  And my stomach is STILL hurting (it's 4:27 pm...ate it about 3 hours ago).  Not hurting- hurting...but just feels like I consumed a brick and it's sitting in my big intestine...rotting there.

Anyway- so that's the latest.  Back to FF.  I love that diet.  I wish I could make that type of eating my lifestyle.  It's basically no starchy carbs and no dairy.  It cleans you out, makes you feel healthy and lean, and works!  When I get back from Vegas, I'm serious about figuring out which kind of diet works best for me.  Whether it's doing something like WW, or something like a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle, I need to find something that I can do long term.  Not for weight loss- but for healthy living.

What do you do for your health???

  1. I didn't have time yesterday but wanted to tell you I follow a blogger who had done two rounds of HCG with success. It's The Skinny Turtle. She's doing well but it's been hard. Too late though - you made up your mind - and I think you made the right choice. YOu can do this sweetie - you have to believe that...and when you do and you're done - won't it be awesome to say you did it all on your own?

  2. I think you made the best choice because you sound so happy about it.

I'm excited to hear more about your Fat Flush.

    Good luck!

  3. Diz, i don't know much about HCG, but i am glad that you are not going to do it.

i'm so happy that the fat flush makes you happy!

i'm not doing ff, per se, but i'm not eating dairy at the moment and am also not eating much starchy carbs. somehow, i seem to lose weight rather quickly when i nix the dairy?! i am a total dairy queen, though, and i don't know how long i can keep this up. i've just wondered how good cow's milk is for me. i dunno. i just know i lose the weight and feel pretty good when i don't eat it. but, then, i love the taste! but enough about me! you go, girl!

  4. :D You are so wise, fierce girl! :D

I think doing the Fat Flush now is good--and then after Vegas, figuring out a long-term eating plan is even better. :) There is probably some happy medium that can satisfy you and work. Some adjustmetns to the Fat Flush plan you can make that will make it okay for the long haul.

Research and thought will show you what you need to do in that regard. This week on the FF will be the first step in that research project. Think about what you feel deprived of on that plan, what you need to tweek. What is really okay to do without--and what you can't live without.

    You go girl!

  5. I'm glad you're not doing the HCG. It sounded risky, and just shows the lengths that dieters will go to.

Good luck flushing that QP and fries! Might be similar to passing a kidney stone, which I've not personally experienced, but I hear is not fun.

FF or WW or HE (plain old Healthy Eating), you can do it! VE-GAS! VE-GAS!

  6. Hi Sweetie!! You should read Alicia Silverstones book "the kind diet". I know you've probably heard me praddle on about it for months but i think you would really appreciate it because there's a whole section on "flirting" with vegan/vegetarianism. It gives you tons on information to think about and gives you ideas on how to switch out certain things a bit at a time to 'vegan/veg' options. Its a real eye opener and its a great book that so supportive in saying that you don't have to give up everything at once... I love it!

I am still just a flirt.. I call myself a 80/20 vegetarian.... meaning I reserve the right to eat a steak if the mood should strike but I go for veggie options most of the time and I love it!! So, anyway dollface.. thats my 2 cents.. oh and maybe check out this website too.. www.thekindlife.com. Lots of info and the forums are great!! Love ya miss ya sister xoxoxox
